Job Description:
The Staff Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organizations assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
30% Parts and Inventory Accounting
- Works closely with Parts Manager on all parts issues, returns and adjustments.
- Closely monitors activity related return of inventory from contract jobs, work- and service-orders.
- Tracks parts accounts to ensure all parts sales are billed.
- Ensure that sales and costs are accurately entered into the accounting software from the parts software.
- Ensure we have all appropriate documentation before a job is setup in the accounting system. If documentation is accurate, setup the job in the accounting software.
- Create change orders when requested by operations.
- Complete job billings.
- Manage AR collections.
- Close preworks to job cost and bid expense.
- Work with sales team to manage active and inactive prework list.
- Allocate overhead costs to open preworks.
- Maintain vendor credentialing
- Complete state registrations
- Send tax exempt forms to vendors
- Complete new customer paperwork for new vendors.
- Track certificates of insurance for subcontracts and manage compliance.
- Manage intracompany and intercompany transactions.
- Manage subcontract lien waivers.
- Create warranty reports for leadership and maintain warranty account tracking.
- Backup for submitting warranty claims.
- Assist with setting up and closing out work orders.
Experience and Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or related discipline, required.
- Minimum three years accounting experience, required.
- Two to three years construction industry experience, preferred.
- Sales tax experience, preferred.
- Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Ability to use logic and reason.
- Ability to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate course of action.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Mathematical abilities to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration, and percent and create and interpret graphs.
- Strong problem-solving ability.
- Detailed and thorough in completing job tasks.
- CPA preferred.
- Completes required continuing education to maintain certification.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires frequent standing, walking, climbing of stairs, bending, squatting or twisting. Requires the ability to carry, lift, move or push up to 20 pounds on a regular basis. Must be able to talk and listen to others. Frequent use of manual dexterity and visualization of a computer screen through the day. Requires ability to see up close and distant, distinguish colors, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
- This position regularly works in an office setting. Regular noise levels range from minimal to moderate. Most of the job duties require the employee to work with computers and electronic media on a regular basis.
