Job Description:

This is a hands-on accounting role for an experienced accountant who will serve as the day-to-day accounting lead for assigned operating companies within the Midwest region. Reporting to the Regional Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of accounting activities, supporting schedules, and close deliverables for assigned entities. The Regional Accounting Manager provides final review and serves as the primary resource for complex or judgmental technical accounting matters.

This role operates in a fast-paced, high-growth environment where priorities may shift and accounting processes will continue to evolve as the organization grows. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities, identifying issues that require attention, and helping drive accounting processes forward without requiring detailed day-to-day direction.

The Senior Accountant will work closely with local operations, shared services teams, and corporate accounting personnel to coordinate deadlines, resolve accounting issues, review supporting work, and help ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with company policy and U.S. GAAP.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Accounting Leadership and Operations

  • Serve as the primary accounting contact for assigned Midwest entities and a key accounting partner to local operational leadership.
  • Own the completeness and quality of general ledger activity, supporting schedules, and accounting records for assigned entities.
  • Review accounting transactions and supporting documentation for accuracy, completeness, and proper classification.
  • Support and coordinate Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, collections, cash management, and related accounting processes across assigned entities.
  • Review payment runs, vendor setup activity, and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with company policies and internal controls.
  • Use sound judgment to resolve routine accounting matters and escalate significant accounting issues, control concerns, or reporting risks to the Regional Accounting Manager.
Month-End Close and Financial Reporting
  • Own and execute assigned monthly close responsibilities in accordance with the corporate close calendar.
  • Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries, including accruals, intercompany transactions, reclassifications, and other close adjustments.
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, researching and resolving reconciling items on a timely basis.
  • Reconcile cash, intercompany, AR, AP, and other applicable subledgers to the general ledger.
  • Assist with financial reporting packages, variance analysis, and supporting schedules for Regional Accounting Manager review.
  • Investigate unusual balances, trends, and fluctuations and support the resolution of accounting discrepancies.
  • Maintain clear, organized workpapers that support an efficient review and audit process.
GAAP and Accounting Compliance
  • Apply U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies to routine accounting transactions and close activities.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and documentation requirements.
  • Research routine accounting questions and consult with the Regional Accounting Manager on matters involving significant judgment or technical accounting considerations.
  • Support audit requests by preparing schedules, gathering supporting documentation, and responding to follow-up inquiries.
  • Maintain sales tax exemption records and support compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure accounting records and documentation meet company standards for consistency, accuracy, and audit readiness.
Business Partnership and Operational Support
  • Partner with operational leaders to understand business activity and ensure transactions are reflected accurately in the financial records.
  • Monitor collections activity, cash reporting, and working capital trends and assist with issue resolution as needed.
  • Support intercompany accounting processes and coordinate with Corporate Accounting and Shared Services teams.
  • Assist with analysis of operational and financial results and provide accounting insight to support decision-making.
  • Help ensure accounting implications of operational activities are properly recorded and documented.
Internal Controls, Systems, and Process Improvement
  • Follow and help maintain effective internal controls, including approvals, account reconciliations, documentation standards, and segregation of duties.
  • Identify process inefficiencies, control gaps, and opportunities to improve accounting accuracy and consistency
  • Document and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), recurring accounting processes, and close-related responsibilities.
  • Support ERP enhancements, process automation initiatives, and system improvement projects as assigned.
  • Contribute to finance transformation initiatives and recommend process improvements that strengthen efficiency without compromising internal controls.

Experience and Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • CPA, CPA eligibility, or active CPA candidacy preferred but not required.
  • Three to six years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on responsibility for general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
  • Solid working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and strong accounting fundamentals.
  • Experience preparing journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial analyses.
  • Experience working in a multi-entity, decentralized, or complex accounting environment preferred.
  • Experience with ERP and accounting systems required; experience with Oracle, Salesforce, Accounting Seed, or similar platforms preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including proficiency with formulas, lookup functions, pivot tables, and financial analysis.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and communicate risks or issues proactively.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
