Description:
The Engineering Intern is a supervised, learning-focused position supporting HVAC and building systems projects. The role performs assigned tasks related to documentation, drawings, submittals, and basic engineering support strictly under the direction and review of engineering and project leadership.
All work is assigned, supervised, and reviewed by qualified engineering personnel. The intern has no authority to approve or finalize designs, calculations, equipment selections, budgets, or scope changes and does not perform independent engineering judgment or decision-making.
Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support business operations; however, such duties will be reasonable, job-related, and consistent with the scope, level, and classification of the position.
Essential Functions:
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation as assigned and under supervision
- Prepare, organize, and track submittals, RFIs, and technical documentation
- Complete assigned basic engineering calculations for review by engineering staff
- Identify documentation or coordination discrepancies and escalate for engineering review
- Maintain organized and accurate project records and files
- Execute assigned administrative and technical tasks from engineers and project managers
- Track and update documentation status under direction
- Attend coordination meetings and record notes as assigned
- Escalate all technical questions, observations, or issues to supervising engineers
- Follow all established engineering workflows, procedures, and standards
- Primarily office-based environment
- Occasional visits to active construction or industrial job sites
- Regular interaction with engineering, project management, and field personnel
- Use of standard office tools and engineering software systems
- Requires extended periods of computer work and occasional lifting up to 20 lbs
- Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, or related field preferred)
- Foundational understanding of engineering principles and technical documentation
- Experience with Microsoft Office; exposure to CAD or engineering tools preferred
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured instructions
- Ability to work under close supervision with frequent direction and review
- Clear communication skills and willingness to learn in a structured environment
