Job Description: 
As an Outside Salesperson, you’ll take a consultative approach to building trusted relationships with mechanical engineers, contractors, and building owners. You’ll lead strategic account development, manage complex sales pipelines, and deliver tailored HVAC solutions that solve real-world challenges. This is a high-impact, entrepreneurial role that blends technical expertise with relationship-building to drive long-term growth and customer success.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Quoting, submitting, order entry, other roles and tasks.  After the sales backlogs builds, the outside salesperson may be eligible to add an inside staff to assist with certain order processing tasks.
  • Serve as the technical liaison between manufacturers and consulting engineers, contractors, and building owners.
  • Travel within assigned territory as needed to call on mechanical engineers, controls contractors, OEMs, and facility managers to drive specification and preference for R.L. Craig Company’s represented product lines.
  • Conduct product presentations, lunch-and-learns, and training sessions for engineers, contractors, and building owners.
  • Review construction documents and identify opportunities for product substitution or inclusion of represented lines.
  • Prepare submittals, equipment selections, and technical documentation for bids and projects.
  • Support inside sales team by providing technical support, take-offs, and equipment recommendations.
  • Assist contractors during installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control devices.
  • Respond to RFQs/RFPs and provide technical input for complex or non-standard applications.
  • Participate in design meetings, job walks, and project coordination discussions.
  • Track project activity, client relationships, and opportunities within the CRM system.
  • Support sales planning and account development strategies for assigned territory.
  • Attend manufacturer factory training, industry events, and trade shows as required.
  • Record customer inquiries and sales in our customer relationship management (CRM) system.

Experience and Requirements: 
  • Demonstrate the ability to multitask with effective organizational skills, prioritize workload, and strong attention to detail.
  • Bachelor’s degree, (mechanical / sales / business preferred). Associate’s degree in Pre-Engineering, HVAC, sales / business or equivalent HVAC  or technical product sales experience will also be considered.
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • An energetic approach with a positive attitude that is conscientious, enthusiastic, and articulate. Possess a professional attitude to handle a fast-paced work environment.
  • Perform quality work and meet deadlines without direct supervision.
  • Interact professionally with other employees, customers, and suppliers.
  • Work effectively as a team member.
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
  • Able to follow established sales guidelines and procedures.
